Rules of acquisition, use, and protection of intellectual property at the University of Warsaw

On 19 January 2011, by resolution no. 314 the Senate of the University of Warsaw implemented the Rules of acquisition, use, and protection of intellectual property at the University of Warsaw.

On 22 January 2014, by resolution no. 168, the Senate of the University of Warsaw amended the Rules of acquisition, use, and protection of intellectual property at the University of Warsaw and gave them their final, currently valid wording.

To facilitate the understanding of the Rules, a Rules Guide has been developed.

By resolution no. 29 of 16 August 2011, the Rector of the University of Warsaw introduced the obligation to use templates for agreements concluded on the basis of the Rules of acquisition, use, and protection of intellectual property at the University of Warsaw.

Managers of research teams that, apart from University employees, also comprise other people, such as first or second degree students, doctoral fellows and/or people not related to the University of Warsaw in any of the ways listed above, are responsible for signing an agreement assuring that the University retains the property rights to creative results; see: Article 11 sec. 2 of the Rules of acquisition (…).On behalf of the University of Warsaw, such agreements are signed by a manager of the organisational unit (the dean, director, or manager).
